That Time I Wore a Football Tee & Baseball Hat and Called Myself Sporty

hat {Target} - tee {H&M} - pants {Joe Fresh} - shoes {TOMS, thrifted}

Next Friday my whole family (aunt, uncle, cousins and babe too!) leave for Phoenix to celebrate my grandma's 90th (!!!) birthday. While we're there, a bunch of us are going to a real live baseball game. Naturally the first thing I do is go shopping for a baseball tee to wear to the game. I didn't find a baseball tee but I did find this football jersey tee. This is not the first time I have sought out something to wear to a sporting event. Right before I left NYC, I went to a Rangers hockey game wearing a Rangers tee I had purchased a few days before.

I asked a guy friend if wearing a football tee to a baseball game would make me look foolish. He said no (I'm sure he actually meant yes) so I'm going with it. Rest assured if I find an actual baseball tee before the game, I will buy that too. You can take the shopper to a sports game, but you can never take the shopper out of the girl....or something really poetic like that.

"Presidents/Family/Some Other Word" Day Long Weekend

floral blazer {Target} - grey top {Loft} - polka-dot jeans {Gap} - boots {J. Crew} - necklace {Kauai}

Some call it Presidents' Day (Americans), while others call it Family Day (Canucks...well those living in Alberta, BC, Saskatchewan and Ontario...so the only ones that matter anyways). Whatever you call it, I call it a holiday and that's good enough for me. Good fortune had me because I got to spend the day and all weekend with my Mom (and Dad for a couple of days).

Friends will ask me what I did and where I took my parents while they were here and I'm going to have to come up with a better answer than the truth. Because the truth is that we did a lot of eating...and shopping. Even my Dad wanted to shop! For himself anyways, in one store only and he didn't want us tagging along. That man has a thing or two to learn about shopping, mainly that it requires going to more than one store. My Mom and I tried to get my Dad up the Empire State Building or to see a show but he was quite happy walking Central Park, shopping at Brooks Brothers and eating way too much Italian food for a 48 hour time period. Ces't la vie! I did get my Mom to Brooklyn today and we saw the play, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, with Scarlett Johansson, which was really good. Never really cared much for her in movies, but after this play I will say I am a ScarJo (is that a thing?!?) fan all the way.

I hope you all whooped it up real good for old Georgie's bday or at the very least gave your Mom a hug today!

Hawaiian Recap Part 2

Before I forget and these beautiful photos get lost in the bajillions I have on my computer, I thought I better post the second part to my amazing Hawaiian vacation. For the second week, we moved down south, to a town called Poipu. It was an alright town, with alright views. Nothing to brag about or anything ;).

On the subject of not bragging, I also played the best game of golf I have ever played in my life. I haven't played THAT many full games of golf in my life, mind you, but it really is crazy that the less I seem to play, the better I get. I hate to say it, but I think my Dad's lifelong dream may be coming true. I think I actually enjoy playing golf. And rarely do I throw my club and burst into tears anymore.

Hawaiian Recap Part 1

First of all, congratulations for making it to the end of all those photos! I know, there were a lot of them, but that wasn't even all of them. I spent the first week of my vacation in Lihue, which is on the east side of the island of Kauai, near the airport. My brother and his wife were there with my parents and I so it was a lot of fun.

There was lots of beach time, games and going out for dinner. Have you ever heard of the game Bananagrams? If you are a Scrabble aficionado like myself than do yourself a favor and go get it. It is so. much. fun. But then again, I am a huge nerd and like word games so...

My sister-in-law and I went for a photo walk into the town of Lihue and had fun capturing the old school charm of the local watering hole, the Nawiliwili Tavern, along with all of the gloriously tacky but oh-so-wonderful shop signs.

On New Years Eve day, the three of us went on a mountain tubing adventure in the Hawaiian back country. You basically float down the island's irrigation ditch for miles, going in and out of tunnels. Sounds random but it turned out to be a lot of fun!

After a week, my brother and his wife went home. I stayed on with my parents and moved down to the south part of Kauai. Stay tuned for photos of my second week in paradise!

Aloha,

New York Tourists

I had the pleasure of playing tour guide to my mom, aunt and cousin this past weekend when they came out to visit me. The four of us gals had just the best time. There was lots of sightseeing, shopping and eating (especially frozen yogurt). The broadway show Rock of Ages, which was a raunchy good time. And even a night out on the town - arguably my favorite moment of their trip! There was a hilarious comedian, an amazing cover band and dance moves that would have made the 70's proud. It was a jam-packed four days but oh what fun we had!

It was so nice to see some family in this big ol' city. I can't thank these ladies enough for spoiling me rotten and giving me the chance to be a tourist in my own city. And while they were scheduled to leave this afternoon, New York couldn't get enough of them so the heat wave broke with a wopper of a thunderstorm that kept them here one night longer. It's just too bad that it's keeping them near the airport in Queens.

Have a safe flight home in the morning guys!

Central Park Style

I know, it's been a while. But my parents were in NYC this weekend and I was busy playing tour guide. Which is pretty funny because I've only been here two weeks and hardly know my way around yet. But surely my subway skills impressed them when I took them on it for the first time. My Mom looked not so sure, thought I stood way too close to the edge of the platform and insisted I travel by taxi if I was going home after 10pm. Can't say I turned down that offer. We did some touristy things, such as, walking through Central Park in the unseasonably warm winter weather (thank-you Mother Nature). Central Park is honestly like a little oasis in the middle of Manhattan. It's quite peaceful despite the roller-skate dance party we stumbled upon. You can see actual expanses of land, trees and greenery. Who says NYC doesn't have nature! Not going to lie, it was beyond amazing to have my personal photographer back on the scene!

We checked out the John Lennon memorial and his former residence which is right across from the park. Even saw the first little sign of Spring. Spring! In January. Here's hoping!

It was so great to see my parents and show them around my new home. It was also nice to be fed from really great restaurants for a little while. Back to the starving student meal plan I know all too well.

This week, classes will really start to get going. And since pretty much every one of my professors has warned us of sleepless nights to come (Ms. Poshy Poshy Poo Poo herself said the Dean has given them permission to try and give us all a nervous breakdown - how nice!), I know this translates to lots and lots of work. My posting may be a little infrequent I'm afraid, but I will do my best to keep you all up to date with the latest in my world. Because I know you were all getting a bit worried there.
